Wildseed was birthed by artists and activists who recognized the need for enduring space to cultivate the creative grounds of Toronto’s diverse Black communities.

The Programming Manager will report to and be supervised by the Executive Director.

This work requires:

  • Excellent organizational, office management and communication skills.
  • Working independently with some direction and guidance.
  • Some facilitation and/or public speaking experience is required.
  • Project management skills are required.
  • Administrative & tracking skills; the ability to keep accurate and detailed records.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, highly collaborative work environment.
  • Understanding of Toronto’s Black activist and critical arts landscape.
  • Experience with grant writing is required and excellence in grantsmanship an asset.
  • Multilingualism is an asset.

JOB TYPE

Part-time, 12-month contract with possibility of extension and/or expansion to full-time, each at a mutually-agreed upon time.

CONTRACT START

Monday, August 19, 2024. 90 day probationary period.

PAY

$33 – 38 CAD/hr, paid biweekly.

LOCATION

Hybrid work model in effect. A minimum of two (2) weekly in-person shifts are
required for this role. Wildseed will remain in full compliance with all municipal, provincial, and federal COVID-19 guidelines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Programming + Services

  • Coordinate logistics of artistic and cultural programs at Wildseed Centre. This may
    include but is not limited to Wildseed-led initiatives such as the Black Arts
    Fellowship Program, Liberation Library and Earthseed Community Garden
    Program, as well as cultural partnership programs.
  • Lead curation of Black Arts Fellowship Program in collaboration with members of the
    Cultural Development Committee – a collaboratively developed 12-month fellowship
    with distinct residency periods and workshops.
  • Develop, organize, and maintain administrative and financial reference materials for
    all artistic and cultural programs. Materials should be accessible to the Finance
    Director, Executive Director, and other relevant parties.
  • Lead submissions to and final reporting of programming grants, collaborating with
    the Finance Director or other staff on an as needed basis.
  • Provide recommendations to the Cultural Development Committee and/or management about relevant artistic and cultural priorities for the Centre.
  •  Advise Communication Coordinator on relevant external comms materials for artistic and cultural programs at Wildseed Centre.
  • Provide programming support to the Centre’s film production partnership(s) on an as
    needed basis.
  • Source and develop relevant artistic and cultural partnership opportunities.

Artistic Space Usage

  • Liaise and coordinate alongside Operations Manager around Fellow, Faculty, and
    artists’ use of Wildseed Centre.
  • Alongside Operations Manager, provide contracting and supervisory support of
    public artists and/or permanent installations at Wildseed Centre.
  • Provide curatorial support to presenting artists at the Wildseed Centre.
  • In conjunction with the Operations Manager, lead coordination, monitoring and
    maintenance of the Centre’s gallery and other related exhibition spaces. This includes
    but is not limited to installation, upkeep and deinstallation.
  • Maintain adaptive and cooperative support toward internally led, partnered,
    and third-party cultural programming at the Centre, ensuring efficiency and
    accessibility.

Other Duties

  • Build & maintain relationships with relevant vendors, suppliers, and external partners.
  • Establish and maintain work priorities and ensure deadlines are met and procedures
    are followed.
  • Where possible, identify systems, software, and solutions to support the
    development and growth of the organization.
  • Recommend and follow timelines, proposals, and resources needed to achieve strategic goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.
