Black Lives Matter

Black Lives Matter—Canada

Alongside Wildseed Centre, Black Lives Matter—Canada (BLMCA) is another division of our organization, a federally incorporated registered charity – M4BJ. BLMCA is a national resource for Black activism in Canada that supports independent local chapters and Black-led community groups.

Nationwide chapters include BLM Montréal, BLM Vancouver, BLM Fredericton, BLM Sudbury, BLM Edmonton, BLM Nogojiwanong, BLM Waterloo, BLM Newfoundland and Labrador, UPlift Black, and BLM YYC.

Here are M4BJ’s Charitable Purposes:

  1. Relieve poverty by providing groceries and financial assistance to low income families impacted by police violence;
  2. Advance education by developing and providing educational programs and resources on Black history to the public;
  3. Advance education by conducting research, compiling data and disseminating results about racism and/or ethno-racial disparities to increase understanding and awareness about existing rights of racial minorities to the public;
  4. Advance the public’s appreciation of the arts by providing artists’ residency programs
    and related arts programs to Black artists;
  5. Promote positive race relations by developing, editing and distributing artistic works on content from Black writers and artists including an anthology of such artistic works and creating digital media;
  6. Educate on topics of racial prejudice and discrimination through organizing and
    implementing conferences and public speaking forums for the general public;
  7. Provide a public amenity by administering and maintaining a community space for Black organizations; and
  8. Undertake activities ancillary and incidental to the above mentioned charitable purposes.

Ultimately, Wildseed Centre and BLMCA are two divisions of M4BJ which support Black communities in Toronto and across Canada through public education, cultural programming, and community services.
